Are you ready for the next blockbuster novel to hit the bookshelves? I do believe I’ve got it sitting right here. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo snagged my attention immediately. Not only is it an intense mystery with a depth of plot being compared to War and Peace (don’t worry – you won’t get lost in anything but fascination), this amazing book was originally written in Swedish. If you’ve spent much time at all on this blog, then you know I’m a sucker for foreign works. If you’re not one to pick up a translated book, Stieg Larsson is about to make a convert out of you.
In The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo you’ve got a work that will rival any powerful thriller or mystery seen in recent years, if not longer. In fact, Larsson’s first novel has outsold The DaVinci Code and Harry Potter in France, and the entire trilogy (Millennium Trilogy) has been selling fast and furious throughout Europe. Its complex plot will have the most die-hard mystery fans scratching their heads, unable to outwit the author.
In the book, protagonist Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist who’s recently been to jail for slander, finds himself with an offer to solve a wealthy family’s mystery – one of their own went missing over 30 years ago, and one family member is bound and determined to figure it out if it takes the last of his days. The biggest problem? Most of the suspects are members of his own twisted family. Blomkvist, with the help of social outcast Lisbeth Salander, take on the challenge in the hope of finding his own revenge in the process. What proceeds on the upcoming pages is a series of plot twists, turns, and unexpected stomach-droppers that will certainly see this book straight to the top of the Bestseller lists.
Just as fascinating is author Stieg Larsson himself. His own life sounds more like another thriller novel. Having worked for over 30 years fighting fascism and racial and religious intolerance through his journalistic work. He’s been quite a hero in his native Sweden, and across Europe as well. But shortly after presenting his trilogy of novels to his editor at the age of 50, Larsson unexpectedly died. Some call his death its own mystery due to the nature of his journalistic work. After all, he’d built up quite a list of dangerous enemies over the years. But close friends insist that Larsson’s 60-cigarette-a-day habit, along with his obsessively long work hours, certainly didn’t do anything positive for his health. Either way, a great crime writer was lost before his readers got a chance to discover him. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo wasn’t even published in time for him to see it.

I like all mysteries-but I tend toward Horror and End of the World stuff. One of my favorite authors is Stephen King-not necessarily a mystery writer. I loved Duma Key
My favorite mystery writer is Arthur Conan Doyle
I’m a sucker for any im Thompson novels, also love the Neal Barret Jr. stuff
I do like mysteries and thrillers, I love trying to figure everything out a head of the characters. I read Good Blood by Aaron Elkin recently, and it was interesting although a little anitclimatic. I really just read it because we were visiting the area in Italy where it takes place.
Dean Koontz is one of my favorites

I would love to get lost in her story.
I love mysteries/thrillers. I usually pick one up every third or fourth book I read, if that makes sense. Right now I’m reading Tana French’s In the Woods. It’s good, though it’s not blowing my socks off. (By the way, I’m subscribed!)
I loved horror mysteries as a teen, but all mysteries and thrillers are fantastic!
Please enter me for a chance to win this book. I love all thrillers and mysteries. I tend to lean towards horror too. I like lots of plot twists in my mysteries too.
This book sounds like the ultimate adventure. I enjoy all mystery and thrillers. I finished reading Where Memories Lie by Deborah Crombie, her lastest mystery.I have read all of her mysteries and they are amazing. Thanks for this great giveaway.
I mostly don’t read ‘mysteries’ because then it feels like I’m cheating, but when I just need a ripping good read I like to pick one up.
Mysteries are my favorite books to read. I swing between reading “cozy” mysteries with quirkly and interesting characters and medical/ legal thrillers with lots of detail. I enjoy them both for different aspects of their mysteriousness! Here’s what I’ve read in the past 3 weeks. I read 6 of Tess Gerritsen’s books. I started with the fairly current The Bone Garden and then found and read 5 of her previous books: Bloodstream, The Surgeon, The Sinner, Body Double, and Vanish. Her books are somewhat more graphic in violence than I usually prefer. After those I’ve read 3 cozies: Elizabeth Bright’s Murder and Salutations, Patricia Harwin’s Slaying Is Such Sweet Sorrow, and Southern Fried by Cathy Pickens. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sounds fascinating, especially since the author died under perhaps (somewhat) mysterious circumstances!
I actually am not picky…I like anything from autobiographys to thrillers. Right now I’m reading Sway; it’s about the inrational behavior and habbits of people.
Great giveaway!!!!
Hi. Mysteries and Thrillers are usually my favorite genre although I’ve been reading very different books lately so I can’t give you an example. This one sounds fascinating however. If you select me (I hope, I hope) I’ll be in the hospital from 9/15 thru 9/19 or 20 so don’t pick someone else, I’ll check my email as soon as I get home. Thanks so much.
I love mystery and thrillers. When I am not reading a fantasy or horror novel, I have a Cornwell, Baldacci, Grafton, Stephen White, or one of many others in hand.
I usually like mysteries with an intellectual bent, like those of Alexander McCall Smith. Thrillers scare the dickens out of me, but sometimes that’s fun!
I’m a mystery/thriller fan and love to find new authors. James Patterson, Johnathan Kellerman and Faye Kellerman are three of my favorite authors. I’d love to read this book.
I like all kinds of books.
I read all kinds of mysteries from cozies to thrillers. I like Lisa Jackson, Lisa Gardner, Brad Meltzer, Tess Gerritsen, Harlan Coben and so many more! I would love to win this book! I always like to find new authors.

I love mystery novels! The most recent read I finished was Agatha Christie’s Pocket Full of Rye.
I enjoy just about any mystery as long as the mystery is not giv away too soon. My favs are by Rita Mae Brown, but I just finished Dead Right by Brenda Novak. I like her thrillers and suspense books.
I am pretty eclectic so far as what I will read–just about anything that might hold my interest! I do enjoy mysteries though but honestly haven’t read one in quite some time–I would definitely take the time to read this if I won!
You never cease to amaze me! Not only do I learn a lot from reading your post, but the books are fantastic! Agatha Christie is my favorite mystery author. Her character of Poirot is one of my favorites, other than Miss Marple. Please enter me in your translated Swedish book. I really appreciate it. Thanks, Cindi
I am one of your subscribers! Thanks, Cindi : )
I love mysteries and thrillers, they are my favorites. I just finished Aphrodite by Russell Andrews, and it was very good. I am now in the process of reading Blood Memory by Greg Iies, and I can hardly put it down.
I would love to read this book too. Please enter me.
I love mysteries.
I tend to prefer female writers with strong female protagonists. I’ve been with Kinsey Millhone since “A” and can’t wait to see what happens when Sue Grafton hits “Z”. I also love Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn and Chee mysteries.
I’ve heard good things about this book and would love to read it! Thanks for the chance to win.
My reading habits tend toward mystery — Ian Rankin’s Inspector Rebus series is my favorite — and fiction. I recently finished Steven Hall’s “The Raw Shark Texts” and HIGHLY recommend it. Fun book.
Just finished five mysteries by British author Colin Cotterill, all set in Laos. Cotterill’s creation, Dr. Siri Paiboun, is the chief and only coroner in the country and his job is anything but dull. To add another dimension, at age 72, he is just discovering his abilities as a shaman. In addition to the mystery, you get a taste of culture, politics and the country. Good, fast reading.
love old mysteries, agatha et al
Oh gosh, I haven’t read a good mystery book in a long time! Since I got pregnant with my little guy (and after) I’ve been reading books on child rearing non-stop (First child, I was/am a little nervous, lol), and am just starting to have some free time to do some leisure reading – this sounds like a great place to start!
I like mysteries and thrillers. I especially like medical thrillers.
I love mysteries, especially crime ones.
I love Mysteries and that’s about all that I read. Today there are so many more female writers which I enjoy.
I actually really enjoy mystery/suspense types of novels. I love a book that keeps me guessing all the way to the end. One of my earliest memories of reading a book like that was when I was in high school and was reading “Where Are The Children” or “Have You Checked The Children.” I can’t remember the title exactly, but I remember that I wouldn’t even stop reading to eat dinner because I HAD to finish the book and know what how it was going to end! I NEVER missed dinner before this unless I was sick…LOL!!!
Most recently I’ve read a young adult suspense type of genre called The Giver. It was really good and led to me reading all three in the series within two days.
I also really like to read the medical thrillers and the legal thrillers.
Thanks so much!!

I’m actually not a fan of mysteries…
I love mysteries and I’m always disappointed the movies never do a mystery book justice. Presently I’m reading Almost Dead by Lisa Jackson and loving it, she’s a very good story teller. I also like cozy mysteries and one of my favorite author’s is Diana Killian.
I mostly read mysteries these days. Sometimes a thriller sneaks into my bag at the library.
Off topic – I would love to read the current giveaway book in the original Swedish but just reading a book set in Sweden would make me happy!
I really like Jonathan Kellerman’s books. His character Alex Delaware is such an interesting detective!Mary Higgins Clark is a favorite too-I can read her books in an afternoon.
Count me in!
I love mysteries… Favourite authors include, but are not limited to, Elizabeth George, John Sandford, John Harvey, Ian Rankin, Jeffrey Deaver, Ruth Rendell, Peter Robinson, Minette Walters, Lee Child, oh gosh, this list could go on and on.
The best two books I’ve read lately are Sandford’s Mortal Prey, and Child’s Nothing To Lose.
I also just finished reading Peter Hoeg’s Borderliners, which is also a translated novel (from Danish), pretty decent. I have read a couple of Icelandic author Arnaldur Indridason’s translated detective novels and they’re pretty good! My all-time favourite for foreign-language novelists, though, has to be Haruki Murakami.
Copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson sounds like an amazing read. I can’t wait to read this.
Great contest and blog!
Thank you…
I like all kinds ofmysteries and thrillers although I’m not crazy about Science Fiction. I also like most authors because they each have something different to offer.
Haven’t read any recently that were memorable, would like to try with this one.
Love mysteries and thrillers – currently reading Dean Koontz’s Watchers….again.
My disabled wife of more than 38 years just LOVES reading.
THanks for this great contest and prize!
I just went through a rash of Sherlock Holmes stories again…sometimes ya just have to go with the classics.
I love mysteries from Stephen King to Sherlock Homes!
