I’ve always loved poetry, even as a child. I enjoy old-fashioned narrative poems, modern poetry, and haiku, among others. As an elementary school teacher and also a librarian, I loved sharing poetry with children. People who say they don’t like poetry just haven’t “found” their right poetry yet! Children are also so surprised when they learn that poetry doesn’t “have to ” rhyme! One favorite poem is “Keep a Poem In Your Pocket” by Beatrice Schenk de Regniers. I also love the poetry of Kali Dakos who writes about children and teachers, learning, and growing up.
